This Algarve original art
piece captures the essence of lemons, a symbol of life’s bittersweet nature,
where beauty contrasts with the sharpness within. Of all the classic still-life
subjects, the lemon remains my favourite, with the notion of a peeled lemon
serving as an ever-changing statement of transformation and resilience.
As an artist painting Algarve, I used a palette knife to bring texture and energy to the lemons, layering bright yellow tones to emphasize the rough yet luminous surface of the peel. The background is a harmonious blend of greens, yellows, blues, and whites, suggesting distant foliage and lemons bathed in sunlight against a crisp blue and white sky. This naturalistic contrast enhances the ripeness and vibrancy of the fruit, making them the undeniable focal point of the composition.
The balance
within the painting conveys a sense of immediacy, capturing the freshness and
vitality of the scene. Signed with my name and the year of creation, this oil
painting stands as a proud representation of my journey as an Algarve artist, where nature and symbolism merge to create something meaningful and timeless.
